NASH

What is NASH?

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a stage of liver disease that causes inflammation and fat build-up in the liver. NASH can eventually lead to permanent liver scarring, called cirrhosis.

The exact cause of NASH is unknown. However, NASH is more common in people with certain medical conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and insulin resistance. There are currently no approved therapies for NASH.
